Purdue University Boilmakers center Zach Edey of Toronto, Ontario will play in the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Final in Glendale, Arizona on Monday. In the semifinal on Saturday, Edey had 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Boilermakers beat the North Carolina State Wolfpack 63-50.

In the 13-point Boilermakers win, Edey made nine of 14 field goal attempts and two free throws in 40 minutes of action. It is interesting that Edey played a complete game. Of Edey’s 12 rebounds, nine were defensive rebounds and three were defensive rebounds. He also had four assists, two blocks and five turnovers. It is fair to say Edey will have to make fewer mistakes against Connecticut in the championship for Purdue, who is a six-point underdog, to be successful.

It was quite the weekend for Edey, who won the NCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Year Award for the second straight year on Friday. He is the only Canadian in the history of the award to receive the honour.

Both the Huskies and Boilermakers are number one seeds. Connecticut won the East region, and Purdue won the midwest region. Purdue was also a number one seed a year ago, but was upset in the first round 63-58 to Farleigh Dickinson.
