Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Lauriane Genest of Montreal, Quebec won the bronze medal on Sunday in the women’s Keirin at the 2024 International Cycling Union Track Nations Cycling Cup in Milton, Ontario. Genest won one of two medals for Canada as Ryan Dodyk of Lloydminster, Alberta, James Hedgecock of Ancaster, Ontario, and Tyler Rorke of Waterloo, Ontario won the bronze medal in the men’s team sprint on Friday.
Genest, who won a bronze medal in the women’s Keirin at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, posted a time in the final of 11.489 seconds. Ellesse Andrews of New Zealand won the gold medal with a time of 11.356 seconds. Steffie van der Peet of the Netherlands won the silver medal with a time of 11.409 seconds. Genest reached the podium by .021 seconds. Hetty van de Wouw of the Netherlands finished in fourth place with a time of 11.51 seconds.
In the men’s team sprint, Canada had a third place time of 17.693 seconds in their bronze medal win over Italy. The Italians had a time of 17.713 seconds. The Netherlands won the gold medal with a time of 17.311 seconds and Great Britain won the silver medal with a time of 17.497 seconds. The medals for Genest, Dodyk, Hedgecock and Rorke will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
