Team Canada is in the gold medal game of the 2024 World Men’s Curling Championship in Schaffausen, Switzerland. On Saturday, Canada defeated Scotland 9-4 and find themselves in the gold medal game against Sweden on Sunday.
The reason for the Canadian win came down to one end in particular. That was the sixth end. With the game tied at three, Canada was lying three points in the house. Instead of knocking one stone out for a single point, Scotland skip Bruce Mouat decided to draw in. His attempt to take the lead came up short, as the Canadian team skipped by Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Gushue of St. John’s, Newfoundland had one of the most unlikely steals of three in the history of the playoffs in the World Men’s Curling Championships.
Team Canada continued to put pressure on Mouat in the seventh and eighth ends. In the seventh end, Mouat only scored a single point as the Canadian team picked up the force. Then in the eighth end, Mouat racked off a guard in an attempt to come in, which allowed Gushue to score three points again.
In the other semifinal, Sweden beat Italy 5-3. Sweden beat Canada 6-5 in the round robin on Thursday.
