Team Canada has improved to a record of three wins and zero losses at the 2024 Women’s World Hockey Championship in Utica, New York. On Sunday, Canada defeated Czech Republic 5-0.

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ann-Renee Desbiens of La Malbaie, Quebec made 13 saves for the shutout. She made two saves in the first period, six saves in the second period, and five saves in the third period. Canada outshot the Czech Republic 42-13.

Two Canadian players had a multi-point game. Kristin O’Neill of Mississauga, Ontario had the best game of her women’s hockey career on the women’s national team as she had three points (two goals and one assist). Meanwhile, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Sarah Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario had two assists for two points. The other three Canadian goal scorers were Danielle Serdachny of Edmonton, Alberta, and Canadian Olympic gold medalists Renata Fast of Hamilton, and Laura Stacey of Mississauga. Desbiens, Nurse, Fast and Stacey won the gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Canada and the United States are tied for first place in Group A. Both teams have identical records of three wins and zero losses. Canada next plays the United States on Monday. The winner will finish in first place in the Group.
