Police said the stabbing occurred around 7:30 p.m. outside a pub near Winterburn Road and 107 Avenue, in the city’s far west end, after which the suspect allegedly fled east in a truck.

A civilian chased the man in a different vehicle, which was then rammed by the truck, the news release said.

“West Branch officers located the truck in the area of 98A Avenue and 178 Street where a confrontation occurred between the 36-year-old and police, resulting in an officer discharging their firearm,” it said.

Police said the suspect was hit but did not suffer a lethal injury, while the man who was stabbed outside the pub was taken to hospital with serious injuries. No officer was hurt, nor the civilian who was allegedly rammed by the truck.

There were no details in the news release regarding the suspect’s name or any pending charges.

Police said all further inquires about the case are to be handled by ASIRT.
