Finding a confident balance in his art, wasn’t easy for Kanien:keha’ka sculptor MC Snow. Even though his journey started at a young age, leading to a BFA in the nineties; being a part of the artworld was filled with pressures of being Indigenous. Mainstream stereotypical expectations limited what one could create, and therefore where one could show work. But on the flipside, the feeling of having to prove the degrees of Indigenous political thought in his art, was also stifling. He took a long step away. But today, he sits more comfortably with his large scale sculptures: creating a dialogue between Indigenous ideas and ways of the past with those of the present.
