When looking to buy or build a dream home, buyers think about the size, layout, and price. But one family knew they had to keep their six cats in mind when envisioning their home.

One homebuyer, Jackie, told Newsweek that the moment she stepped onto the lot where her family was having their home built, she saw the potential it could hold for them and their cats.

The outdoor space spoke to her. She knew instantly it would be the perfect space to build a special area for their six cats—a DIY catio.

“I wanted a place that they could play and get outdoor enrichment but still be safe,” she said.”

A catio is an enclosed patio for cats, which gives felines a safe and easy way to be outside, get more stimulation and get prime sunbathing opportunities. And now, Jackie’s cats can’t get enough of the catio.

In the March 25 video shared by the TikTok account @_the_minimalist_mama_, Jackie shared that her final cost was $1,550 for the 16-foot-by-8-foot and 10-foot tall structure. It was worth every penny as the cat paradise looks like an Airbnb destination for felines.

The picture-perfect catio includes a turf floor, stairs going to different levels, perches, and larger-than-life cat scratching posts. It is a playground for cats and these cats are obsessed.

“I open it up after breakfast and they have their little line to go outside,” Jackie said. “Some spend their whole day outside. Some come in for naps in my office. But that’s what it’s there for. For them to have that freedom to go be outside.”

The project took Jackie a total of 10 days. Some days she said that she would put in a full eight hours, but most of the time she would work on it for a couple hours after working her day job.

The impressive build took the internet by storm, bringing in over 4.1 million views, 517,900 likes, and 8,741 comments as of Thursday. Viewers are blown away by the end result and impressed with her building skills.

“This is amazing. What a god cat mom,” wrote a TikTok user.

One comment reads: “My cats want to vacation at your catio.” Careful not to show your cat the finished product or else they’ll expect a vacation too, especially since they’re in sunny Southern California.

Another added: “Do I have a cat? No. Do I need a Catio? Absolutely not. But do I want one? YES!!”

And even if the build was exhausting, one viewer pointed out a positive: “Now you can have as many cats as you want!”
