LILLIAN, Minn. (KFGO/KWLM) – The future of Big Kandiyohi County Park East, near Lake Lillian in southern Minnesota, is uncertain after a burial ground was discovered on site.

The campground has been around since the mid-1960’s. Kandiyohi County Administrator Kelsey Baker says it is an active place with boating, tubing, and fishing.

There were plans to use a $234,000 state grant to build a new ADA-compliant shelter and bathhouse, and some new camper cabins. But, during construction, Native American artifacts were found and Baker says that means they need to change their plans. They are facing a June 30th deadline to use the grant money.

Baker hopes a land management agreement will be ready for the county to consider later this month. She says they plan to operate normally for the upcoming camping and boating season.
