A 39-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after a Sunday evening collision at a Mill Woods intersection, Edmonton police say.
Ar around 9:45 p.m., city officers were called to the scene of a collision near 66 Street and 34 Avenue involving a 2013 GMC Sierra truck and a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu, police said in a Monday news release. It was reported to police that the truck was driving north on 66 Street when it passed through a red light and struck the westbound Malibu at 34 Avenue.

A 21-year-old man was extracted from the Malibu by Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) crews. EMS paramedics treated the man on scene and took him to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck did not report any injuries, however, a six-year-old boy travelling inside the truck was treated for a non-life-threatening injury. The boy, who was identified by police as a family member, was transferred to the care of another guardian, police said.
The EPS major collision investigations section has since taken over the investigation and determined alcohol to be a factor.
A 39-year-old man, who police did not identify, is charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm, impaired operation over 80 mg, impaired operation causing bodily harm and causing a child to be in need of protective services.
