Governance Unit Manager

Summary:

The Governance Unit Manager reporting to the Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Governance Unit. The Unit Manager is required to work independently with considerable initiative in researching and analyzing governance related policies and procedures. This person must have experience in conducting research on legal matters and will be involved in developing Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory Laws.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible in developing the Governance Unit strategic workplan;
  • Responsible for coordinating WUT’s Governance Unit activities in accordance with the workplan;
  • Coordinate research and information dissemination to the Committee on Governance related initiatives;
  • Coordinate activities to assist the Governance Committee in developing a Governance Capacity Assessment Tool;
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with WUT membership personnel, departments, programs, and management with respect to Governance activities;
  • Collaborate and develop working relationships with other relevant program departments;
  • Attend and participate in community consultation sessions and do presentations when required; and,
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • University degree is preferred in political science, public administration or policy, business administration, journalism, communications, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in policy analysis and research or similar related experience;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing and presenting information;
  • Must be competent with Microsoft Office software and other programs – PowerPoint, Publisher;
  • Ability to anticipate and plan for the requirements of a particular task and execute in a timely manner;
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment;
  • Experience working with and understanding issues facing Anishnaabek communities and organizations; and,
  • Ability to speak Anishnaabemowin is an asset and willing to learn and develop the use and understanding of.
