Family Intervention/Community Support Worker

Summary

WUT Prevention Services is seeking to fill the position of Family Intervention/Community Support team member.  The intent of the services is to focus early intervention to reduce and/or prevent protection mandated services to provide primary, secondary, and tertiary services as required by Ministry standards and requirements.  Working under the direct supervision of the Prevention Services Manager, this position strives to achieve goals and objectives of the Wiikwemkoong Prevention Services, a community-based program assisting individuals by providing alternative early intervention both traditional and mainstream practices in accordance with the stages of life and the grandfather teachings.  This team member’s role is to create trust and respect for community individuals to feel safe and supported in dealing with on-going community issues to prevent intrusive child intervention.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with Community partners and Kina Gbezhgomi mandate.
  • Knowledge of WUT community standards and Children’s Bill of Rights
  • Provide alternative effective skills and knowledge for family relationships.
  • Facilitate care givers with good choices who are experiencing unresolved issues.
  • Provide educational awareness in various topics such as family wellness and safety.
  • Assist in the development of community events for family wellness activities.
  • Prepare and complete monthly stats in accordance with frontline services.
  • Assist families with intervention to prevent trauma and neglect.
  • Collaborate with community partners for family conferencing.
  • Able to assist in the required file systems, reports and recordings.
  • Participate in assisting in the annual community events and incentives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant post-secondary education
  • Willing to attain training in Social Services and/or other related program delivery training.
  • Minimum two year’s experience in social work principles is essential.
  • Knowledgeable of computer programs i.e., Word, excel
  • Anishnawbemowin is an asset or willingness to learn will be considered
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licence, reliable transportation and proof of insurance
  • Declaration of Oath of Confidentiality.
