Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., the organization representing Nunavut Inuit, is offering $100 vouchers to eligible voters in its upcoming presidential election.
The vouchers can be redeemed for a gift card at local Co-op stores by December 31.
Four candidates are running for president: Nicole Camphaug, Andrew Nakashuk, Cathy Towtongie, and Jeremy Tunraluk.
Nunavut Inuit living outside the territory can also apply for a pre-paid Visa worth $100 after the election.
The organization has set aside $2 million for vouchers, with approximately 23,000 eligible Inuit.
NTI’s chief executive officer, Kilikvak Kabloona, said voter turnout has been declining, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The organization has set aside $2 million for vouchers, and the vouchers are not mandatory for voting.
Candidates for president will receive $5,000 for campaigning expenses, 90% off Calm Air flights, and unlimited use of the Ilak fair for beneficiaries on Canadian North.
The election is scheduled for December 9, with advanced polling from December 3 to 6.
