Former President Donald Trump shared an adoring video of his wife Melania Trump on social media on Sunday after the former first lady’s appearance at a campaign fundraiser was mocked.

Melania has managed to stay pretty much out of the spotlight while her husband, the presumed 2024 GOP presidential nominee, gears up for a likely rematch in November against President Joe Biden, the Democratic incumbent. However, when Melania was asked last month if she would join her husband on the campaign trail, she said: “Stay tuned.”

On Sunday, Trump shared a video montage of him and his wife on his social media platform Truth Social.

The video starts off with Trump calling Melania an “amazing mother” and an “incredible woman” and then shows clips of the couple during the Trump presidency and even some footage of their wedding. Throughout the video, the 1987 song “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship is playing in the background.

Trump and Melania are shown taking photos together, dancing, holding hands and kissing on the cheek. The video ends with Trump saying, “Our first lady has been a woman of great grace and beauty and dignity, and so popular with the people,” while a graphic of Trump’s 2024 campaign logo is shown.

Newsweek reached out to Trump’s campaign spokesperson via email for comment.

The former president shared the affectionate video after his critics mocked a clip of the couple at a campaign fundraiser.

On Saturday, the former first lady joined Trump for a fundraising dinner in Palm Beach, Florida, which ended up bringing in $50.5 million, according to the Trump campaign.

Speaking to reporters as he arrived at the event with his wife, Trump said: “This has been some incredible evening before it even starts, because people, they wanted to contribute to a cause of making America great again, and that’s what’s happened.”

However, some people on social media were less focused on Trump’s words and more focused on Melania’s facial expression.

Ron Filipkowski, the editor-in-chief of MeidasTouch and a vocal Trump critic, wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Melania looks like she’s in a hostage video tonight. Blink twice if you need help.”

Fred Wellman, the host of the On Democracy with FPWellman podcast on MeidasTouch, wrote: “Melania is checking the clock for the end of her shift.”

“Melania, who hasn’t been seen in public for months, doesn’t look very happy for someone who is gearing up to be First Lady again–a job we know she absolutely adored,” journalist Victoria Brownworth wrote.

However, Trump supporters saw Melania Trump’s appearance as an indication that she will play a greater role in his campaign.

“For all you leftists in the media asking, ‘Where’s Melania?’ Well there’s your answer…on the campaign trail raising nearly $51M dollars with the next President of the United States,” one supporter wrote on X.

Melania is expected to hold her first major political event of the year when she appears at a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago on April 20 for the Log Cabin Republicans, which bills itself as the nation’s largest organization representing LGBT conservatives and allies.
