RCMP say officers in Inuvik are investigating the death of a woman on Thursday evening as a homicide.

Inuvik RCMP received a report at around 9:30 p.m. that a person had been killed at a business on Industrial Road, the force said in a news release issued Friday.

RCMP said a 38-year-old woman was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead.

A 47-year-old man was taken into custody.

Officers performed lifesaving efforts until the paramedics arrived, police said.

The suspect remains in custody, police said, and the N.W.T.’s Coroner Service is also working on the investigation.
