Nunavut’s Environment minister has resigned from cabinet.
A new release issued Thursday evening said Daniel Qavvik resigned for personal reasons on Wednesday.
Qavvik, who was appointed minister of Environment in September 2023, was also the minister of Culture and Heritage, and minister responsible for energy, and languages.
He is the sixth person to resign from Nunavut’s cabinet since the election in 2021.
His resignation comes just a week after some MLAs moved to oust Nunavut Premier P.J. Akeeagok.
Akeeagok survived the vote, but some MLAs criticized the number of departures from his cabinet during his premiership.
Akeeagok will take over as minister of Culture and Heritage and minister responsible for languages.
Minister David Joanasie will take over the Environment portfolio, and also become minister responsible for energy.
Qavvik, who was first elected MLA in 2021, represents the riding of Hudson Bay in the Legislative Assembly.
