ABC is hoping that vampires are still as popular as they were during the whole Twilight phase a few years ago as they are developing a new pilot called The Brides which is described as “a sexy contemporary reimagining of ‘Dracula’” by series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Aquirre-Sacasa of course created the hit CW series Riverdale.
The Brides is said to be a family drama that follows the story of Dracula’s three brides who flee the iconic character after he is left for dead in the Carpathian mountains. They are looking to start a new life together. The show is said to be “about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their nontraditional family.” Gina Torres and Katherine Reis have been cast of two of the female leads, while it is being said that Timeless star Goran Višnjić has now been cast to play Dracula.
At this point ABC is just filming a pilot episode, with it to be determined at a later point if the show will be picked up as a series. The show is set to be a family drama, with strong horror and soap opera elements. Aguirre-Sacasa wrote the pilot and is one of the executive producers of the show.
